You don't know what you've got til it's gone... Thermopylae, Wirral
By Chris JohnsonTaking-in the view over Wirral to North Wales was for decades a popular pastimes for locals and visitors to Vyner Road North in Wirral and the area of Bidston hill known as Thermopylae and locally as "The Mops".
Vegetation on the publicly-owned land was maintained with a covering of broom and no trees were allowed to grow at the point where the road abuts the hill.
Benches were placed along he footpath at this vantage point and near a 'sundial' that has direction markers to places of interest on the horizon and beyond.
Sadly in recent years the grown of invasive varieties of tress - particularly sycamores - has gone unchecked and the trees and ivy have grown to form a dense barrier to hide the view from sight... as this video shows.
