Everyman reaches rebuilding stage

By Eamonn Lavery

Control of the Everyman site on Hope St has been passed from demolition experts, Sloyan Doyle, to construction company, Gilbert-Ash.

This handover sees the beginning of the next phase in the ?28m redevelopment of the theatre, which will see a brand new, state of the art Everyman rise from the dust that remains. The plans for the new everyman include a 400-seater theatre, as well as dedicated space for the Everyman Youth Theatre and community groups, and a pavement cafe.

The heart of the original theatre will, though, be kept very much alive, through using bricks salvaged in the demolition, and recreating key features like the basement bistro, and the glowing Everyman sign.
