Liverpool Festival Gardens reopens after more than 20 years

By Bethan Hockey

It is almost 30 years since the Festival Gardens first opened in 1984 but now, after receiving a £4.5 million facelift, the garden's gates are open to the public once more.

The 90-acre venue in Otterspool which was left derelicthas been redeveloped by Langtree and will be managed by The Land Trust.

Many of the garden's original features such as Chinese pagodas, Japanese gardens and water features have been restored, and several new additions have been introduced.

This work is the first step in the regeneration of the site which will ultimately see new residential development sitting alongside the newly opened park.
