Sanjiv Khanna becomes 51st CJI, tenure will be 6 months

New Delhi | President Draupadi Murmu on Monday administered the oath to Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the 51st CJI of the country. Justice Khanna’s tenure will be six months. He will retire on 13 May 2025. On the first day of his tenure, he heard 45 cases. The newly appointed CJI Khanna emphasized on resolving pending cases, making litigation affordable, user-friendly, accessible and simplifying complex legal processes. He said, the judiciary is an integral yet separate and independent part of the governance system. He got this responsibility after former CJI DY Chandrachud retired on 10 November.
